Doubling down on cluelessness, former Alaska half-term Gov. Sarah "Mama Fizzley" Palin appeared on the Fux Channel last night to speak about the Tucson tragedy and to say "they're not going to shut me up." [ed. note: Please don't shut her up. Let her talk and talk, and dig and dig.] Asked about the use of crosshairs in the infamous Facebook image, Mama Fizzley said, "I don't think that was inappropriate." Ooookaay.
As Eugene Robinson observes in today's Kaplan Daily op-ed,
"At the risk of being bold, I might observe that her faux-presidential address about the Tucson massacre seemed to fall somewhat flat, drawing comparisons to the least attractive public moments of such figures as Richard Nixon and Spiro Agnew. I could go so far as to observe that Palin almost seemed to portray herself as a collateral victim."Last night, she reinforced that message, rather than using the opportunity to simply acknowledge that there's too much violent rhetoric and imagery in politics, and that she will do her part to avoid it. She's increasingly a captive of her own rhetoric and of her hardcore base that wallows in victimhood and threats of violence.
UPDATE: Even Poot Gingrich is urging Mama Fizzley to "be more careful" and "think through what she's saying." Wow, the irony.
